Chicken Tikka Masala {TMH}

This Chicken Tikka Masala is Amazing. I love it because you don’t need the graham masala seasoning blend that can be hard to find and a little pricey.

One of our Favorite meals. The flavors are amazing and homemade naan bread just puts it over the top!
Ingredients
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 tsp ground cumin, divided
  • 1 tsp ground cinammon
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 3-4 tsp salt, divided
  • 3 large boneless skinless chicken breasts cut into bite size pieces
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 jalapeno pepper finely chopped (remove seeds unless you like it hot, hot, hot!)
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 2 8 oz cans of tomato sauce
  • 1½ cups whipping cream
  • 15 oz can of diced tomatoes (optional)
  • cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
  1. Mix yogurt, lemon juice, 2 tsp cumin, cinnamon, black pepper, ginger, and 2 tsp salt in medium size mixing bowl
  2. Add in chicken pieces and stir until chicken is well covered with mixture.
  3. Cover and marinate in fridge for 1 hour
  4. Melt butter in large frying pan and saute onion for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add garlic, and jalepeno and continue sauteing for 1 minute.
  6. Season with cumin, paprika, and 1½ tsp salt (may need to add last ½ tsp at end)
  7. Stir in tomato sauce and cream
  8. Simmer on low heat until sauce thickens, about 20 minutes.
  9. While sauce is thickening, cook marinated chicken (pour marinade and chicken in fry pan) until fully cooked
  10. Transfer cooked chicken into sauce and stir until chicken is coated with sauce
  11. Serve over BASMATI rice. We like to make this recipe for Basmati Rice with Turmeric and Peas

When you make the Masala, serve it up with some warm and delicous Naan Bread! Don’t be surprised if people start kissing the ground you walk on. Seriously! It’s that good!

Forgot to mention: the link in your post to the Mother Huddle website gives a 404. I’d like the one that uses the g/masala as it’s just a combo of spices, not just one spice.

It’s actually the same recipe Len. I just had it posted over there as well, but The Mother Huddle no longer exists. I just use the store bought G/Masala Seasoning

Do I need to discard the sauce that comes with the chicken?

No, I just dump it all in, adds to the flavor once it is cooked.

How much garam masala seasoning do you use in place of the spices called for in the recipe?

Hmm, I’m not sure, I’ve never tried it that way. I’m guessing you could replace most of the cumin, ginger and cinnamon with straight across measurements…but I’m not sure, that’s one I would need to experiment with.
