Taste just like the yummy bread from Macaroni Grill, now you can make it at home.
Recipe type: Bread
Serves: 2
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp dry yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup warm water
- 2½ -3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp fresh chopped rosemary or 2 tsp dry rosemary
- 1 tbsp oil, olive oil or canola
- nonstick cooking spray
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- coarse salt
Instructions
- Combine yeast, sugar and warm water in a large mixing bowl. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes or until frothy.
- mix in salt ½ of the rosemary and 2¼ cups flour (you can do this by hand or with a mixer fitted with a bread hook)
- Mix/ knead until dough is smooth and elastic about 8-10 minutes by hand or 3-5 minutes in a mixer…you may need to add more flour, It takes about 2¾ cup – 3 cups for me when I make it. Add a little at a time and try not to exceed 3 cups.
- In a large glass or plastic bowl, place oil and use your hand or a paper towel to coat the inside of the bowl with the oil. Divide dough into two pieces and shape each one into a circle place both circles (side by side) in the oiled bowl, cover and place in warm area. Allow to rise until doubles. Approx 30-40 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees
- Spray baking sheet with cooking spray, shape dough into two small round loaves and place each one on the cooking sheet 4-5 inches apart. Use fingers to push down and leave small wells where the butter can gather.
- Using a pastry brush, brush butter evenly over the two loaves
- Sprinkle each loaf with remaining rosemary and about ¼- 1/2 tsp of coarse salt per loaf.
- Bake at 450 for 18-23 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve warm with dipping sauce (recipe to follow) you can slice it or just rip off pieces.
- Serve with dipping sauce, equal parts balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
Keep it Real!
Enjoy!

Is it really just one rise?
Maria
yes. 🙂

Can you do this recipe in a bread machine
Maria
That’s a good question. I am not sure, I’ve never tried it. It would be worth a shot though!
Pam
Horrible recipe, waste of time !!!!
Maria
Can you be more specific as to why you didn’t like it. Flavor, consistency, hard to read instructions? I think this bread is really tasty so I am just wondering what your experience was that made it a waste of time.
Caroline
I will attempt it and tell you by this month’s end. That comment was disrespectful.
Maria
Great! Thank you Caroline!
Karen Shipley
What was bad about it? All the other reviews seemed so positive.
Sherry
I loved it!
Sharon
The only bad “review”, must be from a horrible cook! Glad I didn’t pay any mind to PAM. THIS BREAD is HEAVENLY!! The easiest, quickest, yummiest bread I have ever made! Thank you for this recipe!
Maria
lol, thank you. I feel the same way, so so tasty and makes me feel like a Rockstar every time I make it.

Pam must be a horrible cook, in addition to being super rude. This is the yummiest, easiest bread recipe ever. I whip it up any time at a moments notice. Thank you for the recipe!!
Maria
Thank you so much Sharon. 🙂
Mikelle
I make this recipe on a weekly basis and every person that tries it texts me for the recipe. It’s awesome!
Maria
This makes me so happy Mikelle! I need to make this again soon. It’s been a while since I made it and I almost forgot how much I love it.

I just made this to go along with your cabbage roll soup. Both recipes were absolutely amazing!! Everyone in our family raved over the combination of the soup and bread. These will both be a rotation in our family meals. We’re already a soup family but the bread just put it over the top!
Thank you for such a simple recipe.
Maria
This makes me so happy! We are a soup and bread family too. I’m looking forward to fall and more “soup days”:)
Lauren
This is SO GOOD!!! Probably the best bread I’ve ever had in my life. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
Maria
Thank you Lauren! I am so glad you loved it!

It was our 24th wedding anniversary, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. We stayed at home for supper. I made a prime rib roast and English style baked potatoes with lots of cheese and butter. About a half hour after we finished stuffing ourselves, my first loaves of this bread came out of the oven. I offered my husband a taste. He tried a bite, and suggested we have more, with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and fresh ground pepper. I thought we were too full, but we nearly finished the first loaf. This bread is SO delicious!!!! Will be making this one a LOT! Thanks so much for this wonderful recipe!
Maria
I love that story Nancy! That bread really is the best! So glad you found it and it could help you celebrate your anniversary!

I attempted to make the bread with generic store cheap all purpose flour. It wasn’t good at all. I upgraded to a special bread flour and the recipe was much better! The flour really makes a difference!

This bread is a huge hit every time I make it. Perfect slathered with butter and warm, gooey, brie cheese! I make this all the time and it makes a perfect size to give as a gift. It’s one of my favorite bread recipes. I thank you but my waistline does not!
Maria
I absolutely love hearing this Shelly. Thank you so much for leaving a comment. This bread is soo delicious. And tell your waistline I’m sorry. My waistline is also frustrated with the amount of bread I eat. 🙂
Rachel
I’ve made this recipe twice. It’s delicious and easy, and tastes just like the bread from Macaroni Grill! My family loves it! Thanks for an amazing recipe!
Maria
You’re so welcome! I love, love hearing this Rachel!
Jackie
My family loves this bread!! I always have to double the recipe because we could each eat an entire loaf by ourselves. It’s not as good reheated the next day because it loses it’s crisp crust, so we make sure to indulge when its fresh. Oh, it’s so yummy!
Maria
You’re making me remember it’s been too long since I made this! I need some RIGHT NOW!
Paula
Just made it and it is restaurant quality only better that I made it myself! Great recipe! Soooooooo delicious! Made it all by hand with fresh rosemary from my garden. Substituted margarine for butter and it is still delicious! Thank You!
Maria
Yay! I am so glad you loved the recipe! So cool that you could even use rosemary out of your garden!
Monica
Can you not split it and just make one loaf, if so do you bake it longer?
Maria
That’s a good question, I haven’t ever Doen that before. If the bread was still the same thickness just bigger, I think you would cook it the same amount of time, but you would need to watch it closely to really know if it needed a little more time.
