Our dishwasher doesn’t have the silverware holder that has closing flaps to keep smaller objects, like sippy cup and thermos straws, from flying out during the wash cycle.
I don’t like hand washing the little straws because I have a little germ-a- phobe-ness and I like for them to go through the dishwasher so I know they are disinfected!
My husband came up with this idea so we would stop loosing and melting the straws that would fly out of the silverware holder.
This works great in our dishwasher because when we push the top rack in there’ s only about an 2-3 inches of space from the tip of the prongs to the top of the dishwasher, so even with lots of water pressure the straws will hit the top of the dishwasher before they can come all the way off the prong.
It’s been working great. Nothing gets lost or melted and I get to feel like I got the straws as clean as possible. 🙂
