Easy Biscuit Pretzel Bites

A large dark blue white polka-dotted Polish potter plate of pretzel bites and a small bowl of dipping cheese sauce.

Why didn’t anyone ever tell me how easy and yummy it is to use refrigerator biscuit dough to make pretzel bites? Whether you need a simple appetizer, an after-school snack, or just a fun recipe to entertain the kids, this recipe has you covered. They are soooo fun and yummy, and best of all, they literally take a fraction of the time it takes to make “real” pretzel bites. I am so excited to share this recipe with you. Next, take pretzel bites up a notch by making these Pretzel-Wrapped Lit’l Smokies.

A biscuit pretzel bit dipped in cheese sauce held above a platter of pretzel bites and a small bowl of cheese sauce. My kids absolutely loved these. They are so simple they can make them themselves, and they are delicious–a buttery and chewy center with the salty-pretzel-like flavor you would expect on the outside. So good!

All you need is a tube of biscuits, baking soda, water, and salt. You can also pick something to dip them in if you want. We used store-bought queso, and it was the perfect combo!

  • You can use a large pot instead of a 10-inch skillet for the baking soda bath. Depending upon the diameter of the pot, you may have to put less than 9-12 in when boiling the bites.
  • When the pretzel bites are in the baking soda bath, try to make sure they get fully submerged or flip them so all sides get coated in the baking soda water.
  • After placing the bites on the baking sheet, try to make sure the pieces are not overlapping and not touching each other, if possible.
  • You can use original or homestyle refrigerated biscuit dough, and the pretzel bites will still turn out good.
  • Instead of sprinkling them with coarse sea salt, brush the bites with melted butter and sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar after they come out of the oven.
  • Dip them in cheese sauce, mustard, or your favorite pretzel dip.

Author: Maria
Recipe type: Appetizer/Bread
Serves: 72 bites
Ingredients
  • 1 pkg refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (I used Pillsbury Grands.)
  • 1½ tbsp baking soda
  • 4-5 cups water
  • Coarse sea salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Prepare a cooking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Put 4-5 cups of water in a 10-inch skillet and add the baking soda. Bring water to a boil.
  3. While water is coming to a boil use a pizza cutter, knife, or kitchen sheers to cut the biscuits into 9 pieces.
  4. Next, place 9-12 pieces in the boiling water for 15-20 seconds. Try to make sure they get fully submerged or flip them so all sides get coated in the baking soda water.
  5. Remove the pretzel bites quickly with a slotted spoon and place them on the prepared cooking sheet, making sure the pieces are not overlapping and not touching each other, if possible. Then sprinkle them with coarse sea salt.
  6. Repeat until all have gone in the boiling water bath.
  7. Next, bake pretzel bites at 400 degrees for 11-15 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven, and enjoy plain or dip in cheese sauce, mustard, or your favorite pretzel dip.
  9. Enjoy!
