Super tender patties of ground beef seasoned perfectly and simmered in a delicious mushroom and onion gravy. Serve over mashed potatoes for a restaurant-quality meal.
1 medium onion, quartered so you can pulse it in the food processor
2 cloves garlic
⅔ cup milk
2 eggs
1 tbsp ketchup
1 tsp yellow mustard
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
GRAVY:
1 lb mushrooms, sliced
1 large onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
6 tbsp butter
½ cup flour
4 cups beef broth or 4 tsp beef bullion and 4 cups water
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
Instructions
To prepare the steak patties: In your food processor, pulse the medium onion and garlic. Add the breadcrumbs and milk. Pulse until it becomes a paste. (If you don't have a food processor, grate the onion and garlic, and then mix them with the breadcrumbs and milk to form a paste.)
Next, add the salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard,1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, and eggs. Mix well.
Add the ground beef and mix until well combined. Mix well, but do not overmix.
Divide the meat mixture and form it into 8 large oval-sized patties.
Heat 2 tbsp of olive oil in a large frying pan and brown both sides of each beef patty. Do not crowd. Cook 2 or 3 patties at a time.
When patties are browned, remove patties and set them on a plate until ready to add them to the gravy. (At this point if you prefer to finish cooking the patties in the oven instead of simmering them in the gravy, bake them at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.)
Stir in ½ cup of flour. Once the flour is completely incorporated, gradually stir in the beef broth. Whisk it in so that there are no lumps.
Stir in the salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Put browned patties back into the simmering gravy, cover, and let simmer for 20-25 minutes.
Serve over mashed potatoes or rice.
Enjoy!
