Melting the marshmallows on medium-low heat and adding ¼ tsp salt make for The Best Rice Krispie Treats. These will be your new go-to Rice Krispie Treats.

Ingredients
  • 6 tbsp salted butter
  • 2 (10 ounce) bags mini marshmallows, divided
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 7 cups Rice Krispie Cereal
Instructions
  1. Measure out 7 cups of Rice Krispie Cereal into a large bowl and set aside.
  2. Next, add the 6 tbsp butter and 1 bag + ⅔ of the second bag of mini marshmallows to a 4--5 quart pot and turn the burner on to medium-low heat. On my stove, the burners go from 1-9. I set mine at 4. (Set aside the remaining marshmallows, approx. 2 cups, for later.)
  3. Use the wrapper from the butter to butter a glass 9x13 baking dish. If needed, use more butter or you can just spray it with cooking spray.
  4. Add the ¼ tsp salt to the marshmallow mixture and continue to melt and stir the marshmallows until all marshmallows are melted and smooth.
  5. Remove from heat and carefully stir in the 7 cups of cereal. Mix until well coated.
  6. Next, add the remaining mini marshmallows and stir them in. Move quickly here so they don't melt too much.
  7. Pour the mixture into the prepared 9x13 dish and use the butter wrapper to press down on the Rice Krispies, or you can butter your hand. This helps the Rice Krispies not stick to your hand.
  8. Press down firmly and try to make the Rice Krispies as even as possible.
  9. Let cool completely before cutting.
  10. Enjoy!
