Okay. Where are my Mint Oreo lovers? Mint Oreos are by far my favorite Oreos. This Mint Oreo Muddy Buddies recipe is so dang delicious. I love the way the cookies pair with the crunch of the Chex cereal and the sweet white chocolate. You are going to absolutely love this fun snack mix. Not a mint fan? Try my Butterscotch and Milk Chocolate Puppy Chow recipe. It tastes like a Scotcheroo. Yum!
When I was dreaming this up, I had a hard time deciding if I should just crush up pieces of cookies to have along with the Chex Mix and then coat it all in white chocolate, or if I should crush up the cookies to crumbs and use that to coat the Chex cereal after it had been coated in white chocolate. I went back and forth tasting them both in my mind. Ultimately, I decided to take the green mint creme filling out of the cookies, save it, crush the cookie pieces to dust and use it to coat the Chex pieces after the white chocolate. It was a good decision, guys. This turned out so yummy! I saved the mint creme filling pieces to crumble in at the end for fun.
I can’t wait for you to make a batch of this. It is absolutely delicious. Also, here’s the good news: The recipe only takes 10-12 cookies, so you still have two-thirds of the package to hide in your closet and eat at your leisure. 🙂Â

Frequently Asked Questions & Tips about how to make Mint Oreo Muddy Buddies
what is the best way to crush the cookie wafers?
In a food processor. If you don’t have a food processor, you can crush the cookie wafers in a Ziploc bag with a rolling pin.
can I use a different oreo flavor?
Of course. I haven’t tried another flavor, and there are so many different Oreo flavors out there. The sky’s the limit. As a couple of suggestions, I would recommend using Peanut Butter Oreos if you love peanut butter and chocolate or Lemon Cream Oreos if you love lemon flavors.Â
do you recommend adding mint extract for a stronger mint flavor?
In the ingredients picture, you will see mint extract there. I decided not to add the mint extract, and the muddy buddies turned out to have plenty of mint flavor. However, if you want to add mint extract, I recommend adding a few drops to the melted white chocolate to give it a stronger mint flavor.
Tips:
- Let the kids help crush the cookie wafers.
- I prefer to use White Almond Bark instead of white chocolate because white chocolate tends to seize easily.
- Start with 7 cups of Rice Chex, and then add up to 1 cup more, depending on if it looks like the mixture needs more.
chef’s tools:
- 10-12 Mint Oreo Cookies
- 12 ounces white chocolate chips, white chocolate, or white almond bark
- 7-8 cups Rice Chex cereal
- ¾ cup powdered sugar
- Separate the Mint Oreos by placing the cookie wafers into a food processor and the mint creme fillings in a small bowl to use later.
- Crush the cookie wafters into fine powder. If you do not have a food processor, you can crush the cookie wafers in a Ziploc bag with a rolling pin.
- Next, carefully melt the white chocolate in the microwave or in a double boiler. White chocolate tends to seize easily, so I prefer to use white almond bark for this recipe. 12 ounces is about 6 blocks.
- In a large bowl, combine the Rice Chex and the melted white chocolate. (I start with 7 cups of cereal and add more if it looks like I need more.) Stir gently until every piece of Chex cereal is covered with chocolate.
- At this point, pour it into a gallon-sized Ziploc bag. Pour the crushed cookie powder in and shake until it coats the pieces. Really mix it up. Turn it upside down, and try to get it down into the center where the pieces are hard to get to.
- Next, crumble the mint creme filling from the Oreos and add to the Chex mixture in the Ziploc bag. Mix the creme filling pieces until they're dispersed throughout.
- Add half of the powdered sugar and shake again. Add the rest and shake again.
- Place in the fridge for at least one hour and up until the chocolate is set.
- Enjoy!
