Any Oreo fan will go bonkers for this delicious Oreo Poke Cake. In my book, you just can’t go wrong when it comes to Oreo desserts. An easy crowd-pleasing dessert that’s packed with tons of cookies and cream flavor. If you’re a fan of cookies and cream desserts, make sure you check out my Homemade Cake Mix Oreo Cookies too. So good!
This simple dessert starts with a chocolate cake mix. The name comes from the large holes poked evenly over the cake with the tip of the handle of a wooden spoon. Once that is done, you mix up some vanilla pudding and finely crushed Oreo Cookies. The pudding mixture is poured over the poked cake and seeps into the open spaces. You top the cake off with a Cool Whip layer and a generous sprinkle of more crushed Oreos.
My kids love this cake, and one has already requested it for their next birthday! Absolutely! Easiest birthday cake ever! This is the perfect simple dessert to take to potlucks, BBQs, or serve when you have company. Painless to make and absolutely delicious to eat! I can’t wait to hear how you like it!

Tips for making Oreo Poke Cake
- When you are ready to poke the cake, make sure to use a utensil that will make dime-size holes in your cake. You want the holes to be large enough for a good amount of pudding to seep in.
- The cake does not need to be completely cooled to add the pudding. I usually let it cool for 15-20 minutes before adding the pudding and Cool Whip layer.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least an hour after adding the pudding and Cool Whip layers.
- Wait until right before serving to add the crushed Oreos on top of the cake or they will soften.
- The cake can be made in advance and refrigerated for 2 days before serving. It will need to be tightly covered if you plan to make it that far in advance. If you are only refrigerating it for an hour or two before serving, no need to cover it.
- If preferred, you can also stick a half or whole Oreo on top of each slice of cake for decoration.
- Leftovers should be covered and refrigerated.
- 1 chocolate cake mix (prepared according to package directions in a 9x13 pan)
- 1 (5.1 ounce) Instant Vanilla Jello Pudding Mix
- 14-16 regular Oreo Cookies, divided
- 1 cup Heavy Cream
- 1½ cups milk
- 8 ounces of Cool Whip (Whipped Topping)
- Prepare and bake a chocolate cake in a 9x13 glass baking dish according to the package directions.
- Let cake cool for 15-20 minutes.
- Poke dime-size holes about ½ to 1 inch apart all over the cake.
- Prepare the pudding layer by finely (extremely fine) crushing 7-8 Oreos and whisking them together with the instant vanilla pudding mix, 1 cup heavy cream, and 1½ cups milk.
- Once pudding mixture is whisked together, immediately pour it over the cake, making sure to pour it or spread it directly into the dime-size holes.
- Next, add the Cool Whip layer evenly over the pudding. Refrigerate the cake for at least one hour or until it is completely cooled. No need to cover it unless you plan to refrigerate it for more than a few hours before serving.
- Right before serving, crush the remaining Oreos and sprinkle on top of the Cool Whip layer.
- Keep leftovers covered and refrigerated.
- Enjoy!

This cake sounds delicious!! Can you substitute real whip cream for the cool whip? Cool whip is all unhealthy oils and chemicals.
Maria
Hi Erin, Yes you can and it would be yummy, but unless it will all be eaten immediately you need to stabilize the Heavy Whipping cream by adding a little liquid gelatin so it won’t go watery after a few hours and cause the cake to get soggy.
