The weather has been so nice the last few days and I was so excited to see that one of my daffodils opened up today. We’ve never had daffodils and tulips before so I’m pretty excited.
We planted them back in October and after the weird winter we had with so many warm days in November and December, they popped up in December and I was so scared they might not survive the bad snow storms we had, but it looks like they are going to be just fine. YAY!
Sim took advantage of the nice weather and washed the van for me.
Conner marched right in the house after school and pulled something out of his back pack and hung it up on the picture wall. I was busy and didn’t really notice what it was until dinner.
It was a self portrait and I think it’s pretty great. The hair color is spot on. He told me it was really hard to mix the right color for his lips. They made the portraits in art class over the last few weeks. I asked him if they took a picture of them so they could look at it. He said they actually gave everyone a mirror. Clever.
Trever was a good helper at dinner and tried cutting some fries up.
I seriously can’t handle how cute he is when he is trying to do big kid stuff!
We had Sloppy Joe’s, Baked Fries and Smoothies. (Picture courtesy of Charlotte.)
The kids are obsessed with having our smoothies in these “fancy glasses.” They’ve become our smoothie cups. Aunt Merry and Uncle Cody gave them to Conner last time we visited because he loves the “fancy glasses” at their house. I’m pretty sure I could put anything in these cups and they would happily drink every last drop.
The kids usually love it when we have sloppy joe’s. However, tonight Thatcher wasn’t thrilled that I put some lentils in them (I had about a cup leftover form last nights lentil tacos and decided to throw them in.) I didn’t think the kids would even notice, but after one bite Thatcher was like, “Mom, did you put lentils in these?” He still ate them, he just didn’t have the same big smile on his face that he usually does.
After dinner we, (Thatcher, Conner, and I) ran over to the school so the boys could “try out” for the school talent show. They aren’t real “try outs” everyone gets to participate in the talent show they just want to see all the talents so they can decide how to do the program.
We thought if we got there early we could get in and out fast. Not so much, we were number 13 out of 32 and we were there for an hour and fifteen minutes. The boys are both going to play the piano and played their current songs from piano lessons tonight so the “judges” could see their skill level, but we are going to pick out some songs that are more recognizable tomorrow and they can practice them for the next month since the talent show isn’t until April.
Even though the wait was long, I really appreciated how kind and encouraging the music teacher and PTA “judges” were to the boys. The world is full of great, amazing people. It’s easy to forget that when I see Trump doing so well in the presidential election…but, tonight I was reminded by those generous parents and music teachers taking time out of their lives to encourage children to share their talents and making them feel special in the process.
Keep it Real!!!
