I think it might take me awhile to get back in the groove of things with my Thursday Posts. I gave myself quite a break over the summer and it took everything I’ve got to make myself sit down and write this out tonight.
I didn’t take very many pictures today and I’m tired so I had just about talked myself into going to bed instead, but I’ve gotta start again sometime, and it might as well be tonight.
Since all I can think about is my bed, I’ll just give you the quick and simple version.
Got kids to school. Went to Gym. Started Laundry. Had friends over for lunch. Got a surprise package from the UPS guy. Put little kids down for nap. Took pictures of food. Wrote a post. Watched a little NCIS and ate some (number will not be revealed) fun size KitKats. Boys got home from school. Helped Thatcher with Homework. Played Lego’s with Conner. Warmed up Leftovers for Dinner. Helped Thatcher get his Soccer socks and shoes on (probably my least favorite job in the world.)Took Banana Bread to Ladies from church that I visit teach. Stopped at Chili’s to get myself some Chips and Salsa to go…I have a weakness for them. Came home and helped Conner with the last of the dishes. Tucked Thatcher in Bed, Sim had already put the two little’s to bed…YAY! Finally put the Laundry I did in the dryer. Sat down and ate some chips and salsa while I watched one more episode of NCIS. Edited pictures to put on this post. Typed this post.
The Surprise Package that came was from our Adopted Grandma Sharon who lives in NJ. She is totally a spoiler and sent the two little kids 4 new outfits each and new coats for both of them. Such a fun surprise today.
Trever loved his new clothes so much he insisted on being changed into some for nap…did I mention they are fall/winter cloths…Silly boy!
As much as I would like to let you go on believing that I’m a cool mom that loves to play Legos with her son, I am going to have to clarify that little tid-bit. Remember how I said we had friends for lunch. Well, I told Conner he could clean the basement when he was done with his homework (he had asked me if he could do an extra job to earn a dollar towards a Nerf gun he wants, so that’s the job I gave him). No less than a minute later he was back upstairs with tears brimming in his eyes. I said, “Oh, is the basement really messy? I didn’t have a chance to check, if it’s really messy it might be worth two dollars.” “No Mom, It’s not that messy, but my Lego’s are all broken.” “Oooohhhh. that’s too bad. Did you forget to put them away yesterday.”
I felt really bad for him, because they were ones he had spent a lot of time on, but at the same time I was kind of cheering inside thinking, maybe this will be what he needed to finally take more responsibility for putting his Lego’s where little people can’t get to them.
…..If I had a nickel for every Lego project that has been ruined by a younger sibling, I’d be rich!
He sat stewing on the couch for a few minutes and then got up and said, “I am going to go fix this.”
A few minutes later I heard him come up to get his big bin of loose Lego’s that he keeps under his bed. I had other things I should get done, but something inside of me told me to go offer to help him rebuild his Lego’s. I hate Lego’s, Lego’s are the last thing I wanted to do. But I knew this was a good chance to show compassion and to show him that I like spending time with him doing the things he likes to do.
It was actually more fun than I thought it would be. He told me which shapes to search for and had me make stock piles of the different types he would need. This was the perfect kind of repetitive work that I thrive on. I have to admit, I actually had fun playing Lego’s. There was one Lego he told me to search for that was really unusual looking and I said,. “Honey, I don’t think there are going to be very many of these.” Then later I found quite a few and I said, “Wow Conner, there are actually a lot more of this weird shaped one then I thought there would be.
His reply: “Mom, this is a thing that I know a lot about. When I tell you something about it, you are just going to have to trust me that I know what I’m talking about.”
Hmmmm, I wonder where he would have heard something like that before……..
Keep it Real!!
