Tonight we had Shredded Pork Tacos, Stove-top Spanish Rice and Homemade Re-fried beans. It sounds like much more work then it was. The shredded pork was leftover and frozen from another time, and the re-fried beans were also pulled out of the freezer. So basically I reheated things and mixed up a quick pot of Spanish rice and chopped up some taco fixings.

Thatcher liked to have a little taco with his rice. Tonight was a little crazy and we all kind of grabbed and gobbled so Thatcher could get to soccer on time. Sim and Thatcher had gone to pick up a couch a friend was giving us and got back with about five minutes to spare before it was time to leave for soccer practice, which everyone (except me) likes to go to. Mostly because there’s a park at his practice field. Sim is nice enough to take everyone and give me an hour of “me time.” It’s pretty great.

NCIS_titleI should have used that hour to be productive but instead I ate my dinner really slowly and watched an episode of NCIS on Netflix and before I knew it they were home and starving….again.

So round two of dinner ensued. Trever was just getting out of the tub when everyone was clamoring at the table fighting over the last specs of rice and beans. He started having a huge fit when I was trying to get his jammies on, I’m talking crazy lunatic fit. I couldn’t figure out what his problem was until I finished and he jumped up and headed into the kitchen. The next thing I know he is holding a plate trying to get up to the table with the other kids.

wfd-no-use-crying-over-spilled-kale-1What a silly baby. He didn’t want to be left out. I made him a bean and rice taco and he sat on my lap feeling like the coolest baby in town eating a second dinner with is big brothers and sister.

That baby is getting too smart, and too big. His arms have all the sudden got the go-go-gadget stretching capability. I made a smoothie for Charlotte and Trever this morning and used some kale in it.

I hadn’t gotten to putting it away yet and the next thing I know I see Trever walking around with two handfuls of Kale. I followed him into the kitchen and sure enough he had pulled down the container of Kale and was having a great time playing in it with the garlic press he had also found on the counter.

wfd-n0-use-crying-over-spilled-kaleWe’ve reached the point where nothing is safe.

I’m just glad it was something easy to clean up and not a gallon of milk or something.

Speaking of cleaning up, we have a wheat box the kids like to play with. Charlotte and Trever spent some time in it today and when the boys got home they played in it a little too.

wfd-no-use-crying-over-spilled-kale-After soccer practice Sim told Thatcher it was his job to sweep up all the wheat that spilled out onto the carport. You would have thought he asked him to do 100 pages of math homework. The waterworks were instant “It’s too hard,” “I didn’t do it, it was Trever and Charlotte.”

I had to pull out the, “Thatcher do you know how many things Dad and I clean up everyday that we didn’t do. What do you think our house would look like if mom and dad only cleaned up the messes they made and not anything else?”

sniff sniff, “Messy.”

“You’re right, In a family sometimes you have to clean things up that weren’t your fault so that we can keep our house nice and clean.”

Eventually with some serious emotional support he got it cleaned up.

Keep it Real!

Maria
