Video: Thatcher’s Apraxia Story

My son Thatcher was diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech at age three. We made this video to share on Apraxia Awareness Day to tell his story.

If your child has Apraxia I hope this video can give you the hope that I so desperately needed when we first got the diagnosis. EVERY CHILD DESERVES A VOICE!

My son Logan is 6 and is diagnosed with speech apraxia and generalized apraxia. I don’t know if you have any other resources to connect parents but I would love to chat with you and/or others to share experiences. There really aren’t a ton of resources in our area and I’d love for Logan to see and one day know more kids like him.

Hi Kimberly, There are some Facebook groups out there. The thing I have found the most helpful is going to the Apraxia walks that are near us. It not only gives Thatcher a chance to see that there are other children going through the same things he is, it’s also really great for our other kids to see that there are more kids who have siblings with Apraxia. Overall it is a great thing for the whole family. I have found however that because it is a busy day, you really have to make an effort to introduce yourself to people there and make connections or it won’t happen. Good luck! I wish I had more resources for you, unfortunately it can be a lonely thing to be a parent of a child with Apraxia.
