What’s for Dinner {December 4, 2014}

If you’re new here, read my first What’s for Dinner post to get filled in on what’s going on. If you’ve been to this rodeo before, let’s get to business.

Busy, busy, busy, so goes life, especially in December it seems.

We have been eating dinner later and later this week, because I have been busy and I forget to get dinner in the oven at a decent time and for some reason almost everything I planned to make this week needs to bake for about two hours in the oven.

Baked Chicken and Pilaf

 Tonight we had Baked Chicken and Rice Pilaf. And just for Charlotte I sliced up a cucumber to throw out as a side. That girl is cucumber crazy!

I was terrible at taking pictures of our day today, because I was so busy with things like an IEP Meeting for Thatcher, getting ready for a Pampered Chef Party I am hosting tomorrow addressing Christmas Cards, and trying to get a few important gifts ordered before I won’t be able to get them…..but I did snag a few quick pictures of the random happenings around here tonight.

My boys are obsessed with cardboard and it is really starting to drive me crazy, I feel like I find cut up boxes everywhere. Today when I went upstairs to put some laundry away in the boys room, I was surprised, but not surprised, to see a ridiculous amount of cardboard stashed away up there!

messy room

and more over here.
messy room 2I guess I should just be happy that the cardboard mess was in there room and not on my kitchen table, but lately just seeing cardboard makes me break out in a cold sweat…..all these Christmas packages arriving via card board box are not helping. I try to sneak them into the recycling bin before the boys notice, but recently I found out that they raid the recycling bin regularly…….

And speaking of cardboard, tonight while I was finishing washing dishes, I saw Thatcher run through the kitchen into the bathroom at record speed with Charlotte close behind him, I figured he must be trying to get away from her or hide something from her because she was crying.

She stopped crying and after a few minutes I decided I better check on them, being quiet, in the bathroom…..

bleeding to deathSure enough, there was a situation.

Apparently Thatcher (who was supposed to be getting ready for bed) had been cutting a box upstairs and cut his finger. He was trying to take care of it all by himself.  This picture doesn’t really do the scene justice. I should have gotten a shot of the bloody tissue in the trash and the bloody band-aid package and wrappers all over the sink.

I’m still in a little shock that he wasn’t crying…he usually cries over much smaller wounds. He was supposed to be getting ready for bed and I think he realized if I knew he had been using a knife he would get in trouble so he was trying to take care of it without telling us. Someone is getting pretty savvy!

And just for fun, here is a picture of our tree. The kids decorated it Monday night. I sat on the couch watched. They were having so much fun, I didn’t want to get in their way, but I have to admit it’s taking everything I have not to re-do the ornaments.
