Airport food! That’s what I’ll be having. I left some taco soup in the crock pot for the fam!
Yes, that’s right folks, I’m going to be kid free on a flight for the first time in over 5 years. Can you hear the choir of angels singing HALLELUJAH! I might even get to read a book if I don’t fall asleep first.
I am going to a blog conference. It’s the first time I have ever been to one, so I am excited and a little nervous!
Oh, and I am so excited to show you the pretty cookies I learned how to frost last night.
My friend Kristal is super talented with decorating cookies and she did a mini-class on, how to do the flooding method with royal icing, for me and another friend last night. It was so cool. I never thought I could actually make such pretty cookies, but with her tips and instructions I think I could even try it on my own now.
I left for her house after the kids were in bed, so when they woke up this morning they had no idea there was a giant cookie sheet of beautiful cookies hiding on top of the kitchen cupboard. he he he
School was canceled again today, (we had an ice storm yesterday and there are still a number of people without power) so I made them do some chores and then told them I had a special surprise. You should have seen their faces when I got the cookies down! It was Awesome.
Conner has mentioned at least 5 times that he CAN’T believe I made such pretty cookies. Nothin’ like a good ol’ back handed compliment, but I know he is just in shock and super impressed with my skills. 🙂
I wrote this post earlier today because I knew I would be flying during the time I usually write it up. I am really looking forward to meeting other recipe bloggers and learning more about blogging……and of course looking forward to a little “all by myself time.”
I’ll tell you all about it when I get back.
Hope you had a great Thursday!
Keep it Real!!!

Those are awesome! Teach me!!!! And seriously, I hope it was Edenbrooke that you read on the flight (did I mention that I read it a 2nd time and was just as hooked)? ;). Have a great time at your conference!

Jackie, The cookie are so much easier then I thought, and so fun! I actually ended up sleeping and talking to the man next to me on the plane. I am so glad you told me about Edenbrooke. I LOVED it so much I should have read it again! 🙂

Planning on making some Valentine’s cut-outs this week. Any tips you can easily give without a face-to-face lesson? Thanks!
Maria
Hi Laurie,
This cookies are so fun, I am hoping to make a batch myself this week. You make a batch of royal icing. We did 1 lb powdered sugar, 1/4 cup meringue powder and a scant half cup of water along with a little almond or vanilla extract. you mix it for a full 7 or 8 minutes until it is nice and white and fluffy. Color the frosting if you want. Then you take a portion and put it into a piping bag that is fitted with a small tip to go around the edges of the cookies. Then you take some and add a little water at a time to it until it is a consistency that does not hold it’s shape when drizzled form a spoon. It molds back into a pile of frosting. Just be careful you don’t want it to thin. After you pipe the edge around the cookie, you take the thinner frosting (it is best to put it in a squeeze bottle like the kind you see at some burger joints for katchup and mustard and use it to fill in the center of the cookie. The thicker edging on the cookie will keep it form running off the edges of the cookie. We saved white frosting and made it thin. Then we used it to make polka dots and zebra prints in the cookies. We drug toothpicks through the dots on some of the cookies to make them look like hearts. The thin frosting you flood the cookie with will take a while to dry. it is best to let it sit over night. But you can pipe wordds or other designs on top of it when it is dry if you want to. I hope this rushed explanation is helpful. 🙂
