If you’re new here, read my first What’s for Dinner post to get filled in on what’s going on. If you’ve been to this rodeo before, let’s get to business.
After a month of partying it up on our trip to Utah, we returned home to our “real life” yesterday. Trever was only two and a half weeks old when we left and so a lot of the meals that my mom made and froze for me before she left after he was born are still in my freezer! WINNING!
What is everyone looking at in the dinner pic???? I had just put Trever in a little bouncy chair to see if he would be happy while we ate dinner, and because everyone is still so enamored with the little guy, they just had to see him in the chair. And in case you are wondering, him “happy” in the chair, lasted about 30 seconds. Can you say Spoiled!
Yes, Yes, I know he looks innocent, but he is getting a little spoiled. It’s because I can’t stand his cry, yes, I really just said that. You would have to hear it to believe it. He sounds like he is being murdered, when you do things as cruel as change his diaper or change his clothes or sit him down for longer then 30-45 seconds if he isn’t asleep. He doesn’t have a warm up cry, it’s all or nothing. Most babies start out with a small “whimper-y, cry” before they go straight to the “angry, I’m going to die if you don’t pick me up, cry.” Not Trever, he goes big right from the start. But we still love him…..We just hold him a lot because that usually makes the angry cry stop.
Back to dinner…..I was praising my mother’s name this afternoon as I pulled out one of the meat loafs she had made and put in the freezer. The meat loaf was great but my favorite part of the meal was the Cheesey Squash bake, made from fresh yellow squash from my parents garden that we brought back with us.
Speaking of things we brought back, my parents have a nice big rhubarb plant and they cut a bunch of it for us to bring back and I chopped it up and froze it right when we got home, before I even unpacked. I was able to freeze enough to make four of my favorite rhubarb desserts.
Well, I had four, Now I only have three because I already used one tonight to make some for two of out neighbors. One watched our house for us while we were gone and the other one fixed my computer which had an annoying virus. The two little ramekins were for me and Sim. So yummy! I tried to talk Sim into letting me have his….I should never have told him one was for him….he did give me a bite though, he is so nice.
It feels surreal to be back home, but it’s good to be back in our normal routine. By the third week of our trip our kids had started to lose their minds and the ability to hear my voice. All I really remember from that last week, was having to yell or repeat myself at least 14 times for any of them to acknowledge what I said. Especially Thatcher. The stories I could tell if I had all night to type. There may or may not have been an incident where he shot-put-ed his sister out of my brothers car….don’t worry it wasn’t moving. Aren’t vacations fun!
Keep it Real!!!
