{Thursday Night 12/17/15} Homemade Slime and the Queen of “Farts”

My mom is going to be so upset when she see’s that I used the word “farts” in the title of a post. She’s never been a big fan of that word or anything else that leans towards the crude side of the English language. I’m not exactly a huge fan either, but there just wasn’t a better way to describe Charlotte today.

It’s not what you think.

I am not referring to “gas,” when I say Queen of “Farts,” I am referring to the sounds Charlotte was creating ALL.DAY.LONG with her makeshift whoopie cushion.

When I picked Charlotte up from preschool she had a innocent looking bag of Homemade Slime to take home and play with. She.was.so.excited.

When we got home she played and played with it. After a while she asked me for a cup. I didn’t think anything of it and gave her one. I was in the kitchen loading the dishwasher when I heard the first one. It was an exact replica of a huge, loud fart. I was so surprised. I turned and looked at her and if the sound she had made wasn’t enough, the look on her face was and I started out-of-control laughing.

Of course my laughing fit only encouraged her so she went on and on putting the slime into the cup, jamming her little fist into it and creating all kinds of fart sounds. Once I got used to what she was doing, I did pretty well not to lose it again and laugh, but occasionally she would make one that was just so real sounding, I couldn’t help it, and I’d burst out laughing again.

Her goal became to make me laugh and, I kid you not, she kept it up all afternoon.

When the boys got home from school it was the first thing she showed them and boy were they impressed! “How did she figure this out Mom?” “Wow, Charlotte is so smart.” This could very well, go down in history as the coolest thing a little sister has ever done….

…teaching her brothers how to make fart sounds with a cup and Homemade Slime.

If you are up for a day of hilarity, check out the recipe and make you some. …Even without the fart sounds Homemade Slime is super fun!

So the slime and the farts were just a small part of my crazy day.

I woke up at 5:00 to teach Seminary (a church class that 14-18 year olds from our church attend every weekday morning before school.) I’m subbing for the regular teachers. The kids are awesome and the lessons I had to prepare were fun to go through and learn, but boy or boy, getting up at 5:00 is not my favorite.

seminary dec 17 15I don’t know how these awesome kids (and the teachers) do it everyday.

When I got home, I climbed back in bed for a minute because Sim was still home. When he left I decided to forgo the gym, and try to burn energy getting the house clean before I had to go get Charlotte at preschool. HA! I forgot how “helpful” my friend Trever is.

I did get laundry done (no tennis ball issues this time) and made some yummy No-Bake Peanut Butter Bars to take to a Ladies Church Party/Cookie Exchange tonight, but that was about it.

office treatsI also dropped off a tray of those yummy treats at the boys school (for the office staff) on my way to get Charlotte. The secretary acted a little strange and gave me a weird look, but they have never been overly friendly so I didn’t think a lot of it, until I talked to Sim later and he told me what time he took the kids back to school this morning (they had dentist appointments) and it turns out I showed up about 5 minutes after he had just dropped the boys off. No wonder she was “surprised” to see me.

During nap I was able to get a little more done around the house, and started to read through the lesson I teach tomorrow for Seminary.

Before I knew it, it was time to go pick up the boys, once they got home Charlotte taught them all about her new “fart making techniques” and then they got down to business with their homework.

Thatcher has been unable to find the last little book that came home in his reading folder, I sent a note in that we have searched and the only thing we can figure is the baby through it away like he has done with many other things. I told her I would be happy to pay to have it replaced, that was on Tuesday, I haven’t heard anything back and Thatcher keeps bringing and empty reading folder home. Today he told me he can’t get the next book until he brings the other one back. So, I asked him if he gave her the note, Yes, he did. He is usually really good at getting notes to teachers so I am not sure if she didn’t read it or didn’t understand what I was saying, but it looks like I need to send an e-mail or something, maybe then I will get a response.

Sometimes I kind of hate it that kids switch rooms for reading and math. It is really hard for me to keep track of it all and it is hard to keep up communication with all of them. I never have any of it straight and I only have two kids in school so far. Yikes.

I was having a hard time getting motivated to make dinner because I was going to the special Ladies Christmas Party at church and we were having dinner there. I thought about ordering pizza because there is a joint here in town doing 2.99 pizza specials this week, but we already did that on Tuesday and we had pizza twice last week so I just couldn’t bring myself to feed my family pizza one more time.

I ended up making vegetable lentil soup. Thatcher was not pleased. But he did eventually eat almost all of his, it just took some serious persuasion, and by persuasion I mean a threat. “Thatcher if you don’t take 4 more big bites you won’t be able to go to basketball practice tonight. You need to eat food to have enough energy to make lots of baskets.”

happy girl dec 17 15Because Sim had to coach I took the two littlest kids to the church with me. (I was taking this picture as I told Charlotte that she would be coming to the church with me…she really likes going to the church.) They had babysitters there for those of us who needed it. It was so nice. In fact, but the end of the night, I had almost forgotten I had them with me, until Charlotte came running in, “Mommy, Mommy, I missed you.” …as she ran toward the cookie table.

rs ladiessara and girlsThe party was really fun, we had a yummy Chicken Alfredo dinner with a yummy salad and there was an ugly sweater contest, a white elephant gift exchange a party game and a cookie exchange at the end for everyone that brought cookies.

ugly sweaterIt was so fun to spend the evening with all my church lady friends. And, I LOVE cookie exchanges. It was all I could do not to eat all of the cookies I “exchanged” last night.

cookie trayWhen it was over, I ran home and as soon as I was in the door, Sim was out of it to go play basketball. I got the kids to bed, and then it was musical, kids having “problems” for the next hour and a half. Of course it was this was like prime time for me to finish prepping my lesson and I still needed to type the Thursday Night Post….

The second time Thatcher came out saying his ear was bothering him I realized there was no way I was going to get it all done, so I’m just pretending it is still last night and I am writing this on Friday afternoon. (smiley face)

Conner couldn’t sleep and then he had an itch in a place that I will not type out (your welcome mom) and it was making it impossible to sleep. Charlotte was crying because I didn’t lay by her long enough and she woke Trever up. Twice. It was awesome.

Finally, after Thatcher had ibuprofen, and a heating pad for his ear, Conner had some special cream and a glass of warm milk, Charlotte got tucked in, no less then five times, and Trever finally cried himself to sleep. It was 10:30. Sim walked in and was like, “How did it go?”

Normally, I would have, passive aggressively said, “Awesome,” and then proceeded to whine about all the three million problems everyone had. But, for some reason, tonight all the craziness didn’t bother me, I was just happy that I’m the person that gets to help these little people with their little people problems. Don’t get me wrong, I could go for a little less drama from the female one and a little less crying from the smallest one, but all in all. I sure like this mom gig, especially on days when I can see clearly enough to remember that having little people to take care of, was/is exactly what I always wanted, and a privilege I am so grateful for.

Keep it Real!

Maria

Hey, have you seen Flarp? It’s in the dollar section of our Walmart (not sure if they have it out where you are), but it’s the same idea. Slime in a cup that makes fart sounds. Our kids have a blast with it. I have to admit, I probably have as much fun with it as they do. 😉
