It’s Thursday again. That means I snapped a couple pictures of our “Real Life Dinner” tonight to share with you in hopes to keep it extra real around here. Just in case anyone is under the impression that a food blogger eats and serves beautiful meals every night…..I thought I would clear that up!
No matter where my family is or what we are eating I have committed to take a picture and post it here. I hope this doesn’t get too embarrassing. BTW, we do have a real kitchen table it is just MIA right now, a friend is refinishing it for us.
Tonight I may or may not have been a little grouchy at dinner.Β The oldest of the children was particularly whiny when asked to set the table, then he asked what we were having and I said “It’s kind of like Chinese Food.” To which he did the annoying whiny voice again and complained that we had Chinese Food last night. (I made Mel’s Kitchen Cafe’s Sweet and Sour Chicken) which he loved and he loves Chinese Food so the whining was totally unexpected. He kept the whining going with a trail of “why do we always have to have Chinese Food,” statements. As hard as I tried to remember that he is just extra tired from getting back into the long school days, it still really bugged me.
So of course I replied or maybe slightly yelled, “Conner, I work hard everyday to make sure that our family has something good to eat for dinner and that hurt my feelings. Maybe I should stop making dinner for a while so you can remember that you are a very. lucky. boy!
Then in my rush to get dinner on the table, I was putting Charlotte’s plate on her high chair and somehow managed to knock the whole tray off, spilling her dinner all over the floor. Awesome.
If that wasn’t enough to make me need some chocolate therapy, when I went to grab my camera (which I keep on top of a high shelf where Charlotte can’t reach it) I knocked down a whole bin of Thatchers speech therapy supplies. Flash cards and all kinds of other paraphernalia went flying. Not my night.
My husband recognized that I was in need of a little alone time and took the kids for a bike ride after dinner. I love that man!
On another note, I put a few red pepper flakes in our dinner tonight. Thatcher must have gotten an extra heated seed, because about half way through eating he jumped like he had been bitten by a snake and grabbed his mouth, saying, “Hot, Hot, Hot!!!”
I knew he would be worried about eating the rest of his meal, so I quickly reacted with a “You got it!!!! You got the HOT SEED! You are the WINNER!!!” “The person who gets the hot seed gets the special prize, you are so lucky.” The prize was a piece of candy I hurriedly dug out of the stash I hide in the pantry. He felt cool and still ate his dinner without worrying about getting another hot bite. Conner is hoping to be the winner next time. π
Keep it Real!

I love it! Arwen did the same thing with a pepper seed at dinner last night. My response was not nearly as awesome as yours. She was mostly finished and didn’t seem too distressed by it so I’m hoping she’ll forget about it next time we have that dish. If not, I’ll be stealing your idea!

That cute Arwen! It was so fun to see your kids last week. They are all so grown up. Especially Little Brad, I canβt believe he is old enough to pass the sacrament. Crazy!!!

Awesome. I love it when you are already stressed and things come crashing down (literally). So been there. I’m sorry you had a rough night, but bless Sim for taking the boys on that bike ride! And seriously, you are one quick thinking cookie. That was brilliant to tell Thatch that he had won by eating the hottest one! I’m with his older brother, I want to win next time too. :). P.s. I can’t wait to see pictures of your refinished table.

Nice Pun! π Yes, it seems like it all comes crashing down at once. Come over I will make sure I put the hot seed in your dish, and I will even make sure the prize is something chocolate! I can’t wait to see the table either. I miss it! Thanks for your fun comments. I love hearing (seeing) your voice! Hope all is well! Love Ya!
