Everyday for the last week Charlotte has asked if we could “Pretty, pretty please go to Brooms Bloom for lunch and have mac and cheese.” Most days we just don’t have time but it is also a little pricey so I try to exercise restraint and only go for special occasions or to meet up with friends.
So everyday for the last week I’ve told her no. Today on our way home from the gym she started at it again. “Mom, after we get home and do Trevie’s speech with Ms. Lacey can we PLEASE go to Brooms Bloom?” I was too tired to come up with an excuse so I just said, “I don’t know, we’ll see, but probably not.”
She didn’t let it go and kept asking all during speech. Normally I would be really annoyed with her repetitive asking because typically when she begs for things it is in a really annoying voice and I have no problem telling her no. But she was so sincere, like she NEEDED that mac and cheese. Let’s face it, I can relate to that kind of craving so I told her if she got her room nice and clean and her bed made we could go.
Look at that face. That is the face of a happy girl eating her most favorite food in the world. She can’t even stop smiling to chew.
Just yesterday I recommitted myself to eating healthy and limiting sugar, so I was proud of myself for ordering the Maryland Crab soup instead of the traditional creamy one they make and I even walked out of there without getting ice cream (what they’re famous for). It was hard. I need a few of you to reach through the screen and give me a pat on the back.
When we got home I put the little ones down for a nap and started folding laundry and watching NCIS. When I was done with that I took care of some important e-mails I needed to take care of for the blog and answered comments and
posted on social media. I usually use nap time to take care of stuff like that or to type up a post.
Before I knew it kids were awake and boys were home from school.
After nap Trever was being so cute. He likes to “write and draw” on post-it notes…with a pen…it makes him feel really cool. Today he kept coming to tell me he was drawing a Semi (he says it hema).
The first few he showed me were just little scratches on the paper, but the last one he drew actually looks a little bit like a semi. I was super impressed and as you can see by his face, he was very proud of himself.
Thatch missed school yesterday because he was sick so he had double homework. YIKES. A Thursday and double homework….bad combination. He also had piano lessons so we (dad and I tag teamed) were doing homework right up to dinner.
Dad was nice and said he would take kids swimming after dinner and just as they were about to leave we remembered Thatcher had one more thing to do for homework. Ugh! He just needed to write a few sentences to summarize one of the books he read this week. He chose How the Grinch Stole Christmas and wrote. The Grinch didn’t like Christmas. His heart changed and then he liked Christmas. I was 100% okay with that.
For dinner we had bean and cheese burritos, stove top Spanish rice, apple slices and carrots and ranch dip.
I made an insta-gram story to show how I make this rice and how simple and easily adapted to what you have on hand it is.
I hope your Thursday has been great and by great I mean uneventful and relaxing.
Keep it Real!
