It was so hard to get up and moving this morning. The kids always get to bed late on Wednesday nights because of scouts. It makes getting up on Thursday mornings a little harder so I usually let the kids sleep in for 20 minutes or so and let them skip their morning chore. They think it is great. This morning it was EXTRA hard to get up because it was rainy and dark. No one was stirring at all so I decided to be super nice and let them sleep until 8 and skip piano practice and their chore this morning. They only had to eat, get dressed, take vitamins and brush their teeth.
I realized as they were getting dressed that it seemed like there were very few options for them in their closet…it was then that I realized I forgot to do laundry on Monday because it was a really busy day. I usually do laundry on Mondays and Thursdays. I asked Conner to take all the Laundry baskets downstairs before school.
When I got back this is what I found. Actually this is missing a large load of towels that I had just picked off the top and thrown into one of the washers. I was about to throw a second load in the other washer when I realized there was a load of laundry still in it. The forgotten load reeked of mildew smell and I have no idea how long it had been in there. Needless to say I had to rewash that…It was so bad I had to add some vinegar to the rinse cycle and then run a second rinse cycle to get the mildew smell to go away.
Once I got those loads going I had Trever help me sort the rest of the laundry into piles. He’s a great laundry helper.
While we were doing that Charlotte was upstairs, I had no idea what she was doing so when she came halfway down the stairs saying, “Mom, I need to show you something in the bathroom.” I was a little scared of what it might be.
She’s like me and isn’t capable of letting something be a surprise so before I even got to the bathroom she said. “Conner didn’t clean the bathroom today mom, so I did it.” Wow, definitely not what I expected. I was so proud of her for noticing that something needed done and then actually doing it.
I’m crossing my fingers that the praise I gave her will encourage her to do more of that behavior in the future.
I did Thatcher’s job for him (unloaded the dishwasher) and I even loaded it back up and straightened the living room. Normally I’m at the gym in the morning but I decided to take the day off. It was kind of nice to get caught up on some little things that needed done around the house.
Charlotte and Trever watched The Magic School Bus while I straightened things up and then they colored with markers. It was a very low key morning.
We were supposed to have the missionaries from church over for dinner tonight so I put some pinto beans in the crock pot so they would be ready to be turned into delicious re-fried beans to eat with taco’s at dinner.
A little bit later Trever’s speech therapist came for his appointment. Charlotte and Trever get so excited when she comes. She is so great. I’ve seen a lot of speech therapist in my day and she is one of my favorites! They watched by the window for 20 minutes waiting for her and then jumped down screaming when she got here. I wouldn’t let them go outside because it was so wet, but they usually bust out of the door and run to her when she gets here.
After speech I had to run a few errands and I accidentally went to Arby’s to pick up some lunch. I let the kids watch a show on the iPad while they ate their chicken and fries. They were so happy. I also watched a show while I ate my loaded curly fries and jalapeno slider.
But the best part of my day came when I realized my sister left a lunch box thing on my counter (She watched my kids for me yesterday when I went to get my hair done.) I thought I better check it to make sure there wasn’t anything in it that I should put in the fridge or throw away. GUESS WHAT!?!?!?! When I opened it it had a RitterSport Cornflakes candy bar in it. They are my FAVORITE and I knew she had brought it for me and forgot to tell me. I was so happy.
I ate the whole thing. No sharing. They are seriously the best. If you have not tried the Cornflakes RitterSport you need to asap. They can be a little hard to find though so just check every candy section in every store until you find one.
During nap time the missionaries messaged me to let me know that one of them is sick so they wouldn’t be coming to dinner. Well, there went all my ambition to make a nice dinner. It’s sad, but I just didn’t feel like chopping everything up for taco’s if it was just us. Plus I was still pretty full from my Arby’s and RitterSport……so quesadillas dipped in re-fried bean it is! We’ll have taco’s another night. We dropped off a pizza to the missionaries, if I wasn’t feeling so lazy I would have made the some soup….
It was still raining when school got out so I had to go pick up the boys. Poor Trever had to be woken from a deep sleep, I’m pretty sure he would have slept for another hour. I let Charlotte skip her nap today and she was pretty hilarious.
She was trying really hard to learn how to draw a heart and she was sitting at the homework desk writing all kinds of notes to her friends and dictating them out loud as she wrote them. I knew if I even said one thing, like: “Those sound like really nice letters for your friends.” or “Your hearts are looking really nice.” that she would stop immediately. So I just kept my mouth shut and observed from the other side of the room. I took a picture and once she heard the camera click she came over and asked me to take pictures of all her letters she had made.
The boys have piano lessons after school on Thursdays. Their teacher is a nice neighborhood boy and he comes to our house. It is so great. He is so patient and good with the boys.
Some neighbor girls have been coming up to play every afternoon this week. It makes me really happy. They are closer to Conner and Thatchers ages but they really like to play with Charlotte and Trever too. They are really good at including everyone.
The kids played with the friends outside for awhile after piano lessons and homework and then it was time for dinner. I almost forgot to take a picture of dinner again. We were almost done eating when I remembered. I tried something new to get us all in it the picture. I’m calling this #supperselfie. We finished eating and then cleaned up and Sim took the kids to the library.
I did some more laundry and folding while they were gone and then when they got back we had scriptures and prayers and put people to bed a little early to make up for last night and Sim went to play basketball.
I am looking forward to getting to bed before 11:00 tonight and I’m already giving myself a pep talk to be tough and get up and go to the gym in the morning even if it’s dark and rainy and my bed is yelling at me to stay in it.
Keep it Real!
