Wow, I better hurry and get this typed before it isn’t Thursday anymore. It has been quite a day.
I had a baby shower tonight and was out a little late so after taking care of a few things when I got home I finally sat down to start typing this out and Conner came wandering in wrapped in a blanket and looking very distressed. “Mom! Did dad tell you yet?” I had no idea what he was talking about.
Apparently while I was gone dad decided to have them clean out Lucy’s, the hamster, cage. They were messing around with the old disgusting shavings and Conner started to have a little allergic reaction. Sim thought it was all drama so he pretended to wipe an oil that would “help” on Conner and put him to bed.
He rubbed Wild Orange and Frankensense on him which would not be helpful with anything allergy related.
When he came in to me he sounded like he was actually having a little hard time breathing, I rubbed him with the right oil (a mix of lavender, peppermint, and lemon) and gave him some Benedryl. We made him a bed on the couch next to me and within 5 minutes he was sound asleep and his breathing sounds much better.
Looks like we can add Hamster Urine to the things Conner is allergic to.
Soooo…now that that little episode is out of the way, I can get this post done.
Today was busy.
I feel like I say that every Thursday.
Sim had a Dentist Appointment this morning and I had an IEP for Thatcher so he was able to come home after his Dental appt. for a little while and stay with Trever and Charlotte so I wouldn’t have to get a babysitter.
The IEP was awesome! I love the teachers and staff at my boys school. They are so on it, and it makes IEP meetings a pleasure instead of a headache. The main concerns right now are articulation and Math….there are still small concerns with reading but not to the point where they feel like he needs summer school (ESY) for it, but they do feel like he needs it for Math and Articulation.
We went over much more then the summer school stuff, but I won’t bore you with the details besides telling you that I am beyond grateful for Thatchers awesome teachers and paraeducators.
I also spent about 20 minutes in each of the boys classrooms today for american education week. I went earlier this week but since I had a little extra time I surprised them today.
After the IEP I went home and secretly hoped Sim would say, “Hey, lets go to lunch really quick before I head back to work.” He didn’t and I know he can’t read my mind and I shouldn’t have been dissapointed that he didn’t…but I was. (he reads these posts so I am hoping he will take this subtle hint and make sure to say “Hey, lets go to lunch really quick before I head back to work,” next time he has to take the morning off for something.)
Charlotte and Trever were also very against him going back to work and did their best to get him to stay home.
I fed the kids lunch and put them down for naps. During nap time I made my own lunch and then quickly made a recipe I have been wanting to try. It was delicious and super easy and looks super beautiful and impressive but only takes minutes to make. Roasted Aasparagus Spears wrapped in Bacon. YUM!
I was going to serve them with dinner but Sim called to tell me not to make dinner because he was going to bring home a ton of leftovers from his office “Thanksgiving Party.”
Sweet. I guess the delicious bacon wrapped asparagus’s are free game then…
I ate two, the boys each ate two for a snack when they got home form school and Sim ate what was left when he got home. Everyone agreed I should make them again. Thatcher said he wanted some for his lunch tomorrow. HA!
When Charlotte and Trever woke up we went (in the rain) to get the boys from school. We worked on homework and Charlotte and Trever made a huge mess played with palydough.
Sim got home and because he and Thatcher needed to leave for B-ball practice at 5:30 we needed to get things heated up and eat quickly.
Conner and I worked on the dishes while Sim got the food ready. Or maybe I worked on dishes while Conner made faces in the reflection of the window.
Dinner was Turkey, Rice, Gravy, Cornbread Casserole, and Rolls….and coconut pecan cupcakes and caramel cake. It was yummy but I only had a couple bites because I knew I would eat a lot at the baby shower.
Sim is coaching Thatcher’s basketball team this year and tonight was there first practice. The practice goes from 5:45-7:00 which makes Sim really happy because he can still play basketball at 8:30 with the guys. But tonight I had a baby shower at 7:00 so when they left for practice (Conner went with them) I took the two little ones with me to get a baby gift. And then dropped the kids off to Sim at about a quarter to 7:00, so I could get to the shower.
That sounds cut and dry but it got a little complicated when I realized that I had forgotten to make sure the stroller was still in the back of the van so Trever could sit in it like a nice boy while Sim finished the last 15 minutes of his practice.
The stroller was not in the back and when I pulled Trever out of his car seat I realized he was poopy (for the 5th time today) so I hurried to change him on the floor of the van as the Elementary Principal, who was in the IEP meeting with me this morning, came walking past.
Then when I got in the gym, there were three teams practicing in the gym because of some misunderstanding and there were about a million parents in there so I felt really awesome walking up to my husband who was “coaching” and handing him a baby, pointing to the toddler I left sitting on the side of the gym, and then walking out.
I can only imagine what anyone observing that transaction must have thought….
And now for my favorite thing that happened today. It was at the baby shower, which was really fun and there were lots of delicious appetizers and goodies. (I took my new favorite Brownies.)
At the shower, when she opened her presents one of them was a “Crib Dribbler.” The person who gave it to her told her how amazing it was and how it just “saved her” and then the friend next to her added, “Oh yes, we had one of those for Noah and it was the best! Absolutely the Best!
Half of the women in the room were looking around awkwardly, like. “Are they serious?” The other half were still trying to figure out what the heck it was. Someone grabbed the box and started reading the back which said things like. -Pictured with Cotton Candy Flavored Kids energy drink. And -Made form recycled syringes. There was a coupon on the back for an energy protein powder. It was about this time that the woman who gave it to her started encouraging her to open it and look at it. When she opened the box it had a different gift in it (baby towels and washcloths.) We all died laughing.
Best gag gift I have ever seen. It was hilarious. Turns out she got it at Target and said they have a bunch of different boxes like that for sale right now. Not just baby stuff but all kinds of funny things to throw people off.
I can’t wait to go see what else they have.
It was awesome!
Keep it Real!
Maria
P.S. how cute is Trever playing b-ball this morning. Sim had a great idea and put the one that hangs on the door in the boys room down on a chair so Trever could reach it. Don’t tell Sim I said this but he is kind of a genius!
