Back in February I went to a blog conference that was put on by the Six Sisters’ and I had a great time. While I was there I had a chance to flip through their new cookbook that hadn’t even been released yet.
I loved how the new cookbook,Β A Year With Six Sisters’ Stuff was laid out in a friendly menu-planning style and my mouth was watering more and more with each page I turned.
I new that this was a cookbook I would actually want to purchase, and more that that, actually use….
Being given the opportunity to do a review of the new cookbook was an unexpected bonus. I’ve never done a review before and looked forward to getting my own copy in the mail so I could take a more thorough look at it.
The day it came in the mail, I may or may not have let Charlotte watch Barney for three straight hours. I couldn’t stop reading through each recipe and mentally tasting all of the deliciousness that was before me.
I love that they have it set up so that each meal is coordinated with a main dish as well as a side dish and dessert.
I didn’t waste any time trying out a few recipes. The next day I made their Slow Cooker Sticky Chicken (page 2) and it was a huge hit. Both of my boys ate three drumsticks. The Asian style glaze was simple to whip up and tasted great with some rice on the side.
I also made their Spinach Lasagna Roll-ups (page 200), Β Cheesecake Chess Squares (page 224), Baked Seasoned Steak Fries (page 155), Mandarin Orange Pretzel Salad (139), and Sesame Green Beans (Page 19).
Every recipe I have tried so far has been delicious and the instructions are easy to follow. This cookbook is the perfect companion for busy moms who want to make yummy food their whole family will enjoy!
One of the things I have always loved about the Six Sisters is that they are passionate about spending time as a family together at dinner time. I totally agree and I think making an effort to eat dinner together as often as possible is one of the best gifts we can give our children. In the cookbook the sisters’ have included fun and simple traditions that they do in their family.
One of my favorites is a tradition they do the night before Thanksgiving. Instead of making dinner (which, lets face it, is just crazy if you’ve been cooking pies and prepping all day) they give each child $5 at the grocery store and let them pick whatever they want to eat for dinner. Then they take everything home, and put it out for everyone to share for dinner. My kids would LOVE this tradition, I already know Conner would pick as many Ramen Noodle packets as he could get for $5.00.
I have had so much fun with this cookbook, it is full of great simple recipes, fun ideas that even this tired pregnant mother (living in survival mode) feels like she could pull off, helpful hints for food storage, family dinner conversation starters, and a handy page that tells you measurement conversions.
I love my copy of A Year With Six Sisters’ Stuff so much I think you all need it too. Unfortunately I can’t afford to buy all of you a copy, but I can afford to buy one of you a copy… π So lets do a Giveaway!
