As awkward as it feels to be typing a post, it is super exciting to me that I finally feel like myself again and want to share my day and dinner with my blog friends. Yay! It is so nice to be back.
Something about hitting pretty close to rock bottom (health wise) during my recovery and having the gift of feeling healthy again has given me a new lease on life and I am just so darn happy to be healthy and alive and to have a body that can do things. Feeling good and being healthy is awesome. I’m going to try really hard not to take that wonderful blessing for granted anymore.
And as soon as I get my taste buds all the way back to normal I will be darn sure not to take that blessing for granted either.
For a month after the surgery everything, and I mean everything tasted gross, but especially sugary things YUCK, they actually tasted like poison. Things have slowly gotten a little better and I’m hopeful that they will continue to recover and that hopefully soon, everything will taste normal again. sigh.
I have been able to eat more and more things, but tonight’s dinner tasted absolutely terrible to me, everyone else thought it was good, but I couldn’t even stand to eat it. It was broccoli cheddar soup. I was sad and hungry for something, but nothing sounded good, so when Sim got back from Thatcher’s basketball practice he sent me to go get myself something at Panera. Interestingly enough, the food at Panera has been some of the best tasting food to me during this whole taste bud saga. I think it is because they use things in their natural state for the most part and have very few additives and little added sugar.
I feel like I am an additive, sugar detector right now.
I got tomato soup with Gouda cheese on the side and extra croutons. It was yummy but still tasted a little off, but not so off that I couldn’t enjoy it. I sat by myself in a booth and watched Studio C clips. Good times. Really, it was actually the best.
Then I came home and found Sim at the computer about to order me a new labtop. Hip Hip Hooray. This one (I am typing on now) is driving me crazy! CRAZY! I remember someone telling me that Bloggers go through a lot of computers…turns out they were right. Can’t wait to get the new one.
So to back up, a little about the rest of out day. Char had preschool, I usually go to the gym while she is at preschool, but Trever had been so sad at the stay and play yesterday (it was our first day back in five weeks) I decided to go after her preschool so Charlotte would be there with him and maybe he wouldn’t be so sad.
He spent the morning being a crazy toddler, which translates to, he pulled a chair over to everything and everywhere he wanted to go/see/break/mess with. Today’s fixation was the toaster oven, every time I turned around he had his chair over there taking the pan and rack out and trying to fit them back in. Despite his toddlerness, Trever and I got some sweeping done and loaded the dishwasher and then went to get Char at preschool
We got to the gym at about 11:15. The only two classes offered at that time were Tai Chi and Everfit. I didn’t know what either of them were so I asked the lady at the counter, Tai Chi is a meditation class and Everfit is a senior citizen class. I opted for Everfit and was feeling pretty dang good about myself in a class full of people twice my age. I mean I was killing it! I think I might continue going to that class just to feel so amazing about my workout skillz.
After the gym we went home and had lunch and nap time. I edited some pictures of things I’ve been making lately and before I knew it, it was time to get the boys from school.
The boys opted to have snack and exercise time before homework, which was great, I kind of wish they would do that everyday. I was able to hurry and get the soup for dinner going and by the time we sat down to work on homework dad was almost home so I only had to deal with “Trever Meltdown” (he can’t stand homework time) for a few minutes and then Dad was there to the rescue and entertained Charlotte and Trever while I finished helping Thatcher.
This is what Dad entertaining them looked like when I checked in on them.
Conner only had a little homework so he was done quick and enjoyed his screen time up on his bunk bed where the younger siblings can’t bother him.
While Dad and Thatcher were at basketball practice, Conner made cupcakes for his Blue and Gold Scout Banquet tomorrow. Charlotte and Trever were more then willing to help make the cupcakes, Trever even pulled a chair over.
(I just love that Charlotte’s socks are on upside down and inside out in this picture)
Conner did about 90% of the cupcake making on his own and he did great….however, I did have to bite my lip about a million times when he was putting the batter into the cupcake liners. Just smile and say good job, just smile and say good job, just smile and say good job. twitch. twitch.
Keep it Real!

I’m so glad you are feeling better. I’ve been thinking a lot about you. Hopefully you get your taste back soon. 🙂
Thanks Jamie. I really appreciate that. It was a little more of a recovery then I expected, but I am feeling soooo much better! And yes, it will be a great day when sugar taste good again. 🙂
I wondered where you were and was hoping everything was ok! Glad you are feeling better after your tonsillectomy. Yikes!!
And since you mentioned it in this post…I’m interested in your after school schedule. I have my own but have major issues with it. Any suggestions? What works for your family and kiddos?
Again, glad to see all is well at your house. Hang in there! The food will taste good soon! 🙂
Thanks Jileen, I am feeling sooo much better! I actually just started something new, we have tried a lot of different things, both older boys have trouble with awareness and staying focused on tasks, so things need to be very visual with them. Thatcher does AMAZING with visual cues and this is working really really well so far. I will send you a pic to the e-mail address on this comment.
