Baked Honey Mustard Salmon

A large filet of Baked Honey Mustard Salmon sliced into several pieces on a baking sheet at a diagonal.

Flaky salmon baked to perfection with a delicious honey mustard glaze,  a squeeze of fresh lemon, and a very slight hint of heat from a dash of sriracha– this is a dish that wakes up all of your taste buds. I’ve been aiming to get more salmon in our diet, and this Baked Honey Mustard Salmon is one of our new favorites. Not into mustard? Give this delicious Baked Teriyaki Salmon a try!

This recipe calls for two types of mustard. You need grainy, stone-ground mustard and  Dijon mustard. I’ve seen a lot of recipes for chicken and salmon that have a mustard glaze like this over them. I was really skeptical that it could actually taste good, but I’ve been wanting to get more creative with how I prepare fish. So, I started looking at a bunch of mustard-based glaze recipes. After a little research, I came up with this combo, and I think it turned out great.

I like to put it under the broiler for a minute after the fish is finished cooking to caramelize the glaze a little more. Yum! If you love salmon, give this recipe a try. I can’t wait to hear if you like it as much as we did.

Can I substitute other mustards that I have on hand if I don’t have Dijon or stone-ground mustard?

Regular yellow mustard is much too harsh for this recipe and should not be used as a substitute. If you don’t have Dijon Mustard, you could use store-bought honey mustard, but the stone-ground mustard is an important element in the recipe and can’t be replaced by anything else.

Can I grill this Salmon?

Yes, you definitely can. If you do choose to grill it, wrap it in foil. The glaze will run off and make a big mess if you don’t.

Can this recipe be halved if I am only making a few 4-ounce pieces instead of a large fillet?

Yes. This recipe is enough for two pounds of salmon. If you are using 3-4 four-ounce pieces instead, you can definitely halve this recipe.

A light blue plate with a piece of salmon with a fork head taking a bite out. Next to the baked salmon is broccoli and an opened baked potato filled with butter. In the background in the left upper and bottom corners is a golden cloth towel. How long does Salmon need to bake?

Typically salmon needs to bake for 18-20 minutes at 350 degrees. If you use a higher temperature, like 450 degrees, it only needs about 12-13 minutes.

How can you tell when salmon is done?

Salmon is done when the meat has gone from the bright orangish-pink color to a light color throughout. It is also very easy to flake when it is done.

What is the best way to store leftover salmon?

In the fridge in an airtight container. Cold salmon tastes great on avocado toast or in a salad the next day.
