The Best Homemade Wassail Recipe
Wassail is a hot beverage made from apple cider, citrus, cranberries, and warm spices. It is a warm, cozy drink that is easy to make and perfect for the holidays or sipping on a chilly day. Like this non-alcoholic Sparkling Holiday Punch, The Best Wassail Recipe is as delicious as it is beautiful!
Once a year in the fall, I help with the refreshments for a meeting of 35 women. This year, we served The Best Wassail Recipe, Carmelitas, and The Best Pumpkin Squares. For the meeting last year, I was asked to make a hot drink, so I made this Wassail recipe. I totally forgot to take pictures, and I didn’t write the recipe down. Everyone liked the hot drink so much that they wanted me to make the Wassail again for this year’s meeting.
I figured out how I made the Wassail, took it to the meeting, and to my book club. It was such a hit again, and I was super happy I wrote the recipe down and took photos. Now it’s on the blog, and I am able to easily share the recipe with whomever asks for it. Also, it is a great alternative to hot cocoa, especially for those who might have a lactose intolerance.
When I was making the Wassail, the aroma of the spiced cider kept drawing my kids back into the kitchen asking for a drink, but I couldn’t give them any. My son, Trever, was so glad there were leftovers from the book club so he could have some. He said it reminded him of the Kinderpunsch we drank at the German Christmas markets when we lived in Germany.

- You can easily cut the recipe in half if you do not want to make a large batch.
- It can be made on the stovetop or in a slow cooker.

- Apple juice can be used in place of apple cider if you’re not able to find apple cider in the stores. I recommend using apple cider for the best flavor. It creates a depth of flavor that apple juice does not.
